‘Sankt Martin’ – Lantern Festival (November)
The ancient legend of Sankt Martin, a Roman soldier who had compassion on a poor man who was sitting at night in the cold snowy weather on the side of the way. Martin saw him, cut his cloak in two with his sword and gave half of it to the poor man. That night Christ appeared to him in a dazzling vision, dressed in the parted cloak, and commended the young soldier for his charity. Martin soon quit his military assignment and gave his life to helping others in need. In the spirit of Sankt Martin, we make own lanterns, rehearse a little play telling the story of St. Martin and we all go for a Lantern walk at the park after sundown, while singing St. Martins songs. Come and create your own Lantern and be part of our yearly Lantern festival in November.

‘Sankt Nikolaus ’ (6th of December)
Nikolaus was born around A.D. 245 in the port city of Patara, near Myra, in what we now call Turkey. When he was 19 years old he became the Bishop of Myra. St. Nikolaus became known for performing good deeds during his lifetime, especially for people in need. He became the patron saint of children, sailors, students, teachers, and merchants.

He is credited with several miracles and his feast day is Dec. 6. when he brings small gifts for the children.
